Laurel Barrus, Centerville, Utah

Laurel Barrus, President and Founder of Handi Quilter Company, developed the very first quilting frame to be used with your own home sewing machine, the Handi Quilter®. In 2003, Laurel also developed the HQ Sixteen, a new sixteen-inch quilting head for home quilters. She majored in Clothing and Textiles with a minor in Business. Laurel has done educational programs on sewing techniques that are used in schools within the U.S., as well as in several other English-speaking countries. She has also written a book, and teaches machine quilting techniques to quilters all over the country. Laurel is an LEQ certified machine quilting instructor.

Laurel loves the creativity of machine quilting which can be used just like an artistic tool. You can draw with thread and needle like others use a paintbrush or pencil. She believes quilt tops are better enhanced with the specific designs that are created expressly for that quilt top.
