Image Information:

  • Each entry MUST be accompanied by 2 photos of the quilt for identification purposes, one picture of the entire quilt and one close up.
  • To use the online entry form to add images please make sure that your images are under 2MB file size each. If they need to be re-sized smaller you can use most image editing programs to accomplish this. Ideal image size is around 400x600 pixels (about 5.5" x 8.5") and 72 dpi. Images must be .jpg files.
  • If you are having trouble with the online image submission, please complete your registration without them and then email the images with your name, the quilt name, and category to  or mail printed photos to the address above.

Quilt Description Information:

Please provide a description of the quilt in 40 words or less. This will be added to the card shown with the quilt. List materials used, design (original or pattern, give credit where appropriate), inspiration, etc. Please double check your spelling as this will appear publicly at the show.

Quilt Perimeter:

Show quilts are limited to a total perimeter of 480 inches. The perimeter of your quilt is found by adding the length of all 4 sides together. You can also do (width x 2) + (height x 2) = perimeter total. For instance if you had a quilt that was 36" x 48" the total perimeter of the quilt would be (36" x 2) + (48" x 2) = 168" in perimeter.

Most quilts will fit well within the maximum perimeter limit for the show.

Judging Group Terms:

  • Solitaire = Pieced & quilted by the same person.
  • Combination = Pieced & quilted by more than one person.

Youth Categories:

Youth 18 years of age and under have two judged categories to participate in at HMQS 2015, Youth and Youth Computerized. And, just as in past years, competing youth 14 years of age and under are eligible for the special Youth 14 & Younger Award.

Rookie Designation:

HMQS has two awards to recognize beginning machine quilters, the HMQS Best Rookie Award for adults and the Claudia Pfeil New to Quilting Award which could be awarded to an adult or a youth. To be eligible this year the quilter must have started machine quilting after January 1, 2014.

Quilt Return:

  • Quilts can be picked up from the show on the last day or shipped. Please indicate your preference on the entry form.
  • The cost for shipping is $25 for the first quilt and $15 for each additional quilt. Insurance is an additional $1-$10 depending on the quilt's value. When you register your quilts please choose the shipping option that best fits your needs.
  • If you are setting up return shipping for multiple quilts, enter the information for each quilt and submit the payment information. You will be contacted with the adjusted shipping cost and billed appropriately.

Exhibit Only:

At HMQS we allow up to three (3) quilts entered for non-judged Exhibit Only. All Exhibit Only quilts must fit the definitions of a quilt, and may be in any of the standard categories. Display is conditional on space availability. All exhibit only quilts must be machine quilted. Cost of entering a quilt is $5 to cover insurance on the quilt.

We highly recommend that you choose to enter your quilt in the judged competition. Even if you don't feel your quilt is good enough to win a prize, you will still receive valuable feedback and suggestions from our judges to improve your quilting.
