2016 Theme & Charity

"It's Magic 2016" -
Creating Memorable Moments!

"It’s Magic!" - Memorable Moments is the spectacular theme for HMQS 2016. Magic brings to mind all the colors and wonders of our imagination. It’s everything that sparkles and captivates, topped with pizzazz and showmanship! And magic is always full of surprises – wonderful, unexpected twists and turns that keep you wondering, “How did they do that?”

This is just the spontaneity and boundary-bursting creativity we want our quilters to bring to their quilting this year! Surprise us, hypnotize us, and keep us wondering, “How did they do that?” What quilting tricks do you have up your sleeves? Abracadabra! “It’s Magic!”

HMQS 2016 Show Charity: The Christmas Box International

The Christmas Box International partners with local, national and international communities and groups to prevent child abuse and to improve the quality of life for children, teens and young adults who have been abused, neglected or are homeless.

Our organization was founded in 1996 by New York Times best-selling author of The Christmas Box, Richard Paul Evans. Annually more than 8,000 children locally, nationally, and internationally are served by The Christmas Box International (CBI). Our motto is simple: every child deserves a childhood.

CBI’s Children and Youth Programs serve children, teens and young adults who have been abused, neglected or abandoned. These programs were created over the organization’s lifespan to better support underserved populations in the child welfare system. CBI Children and Youth Programs include:

Christmas Box Houses - These emergency children’s shelters assist roughly 1,300 children 0-18 yrs who are removed from an abusive or neglectful situation, and are located in Salt Lake City, Ogden and Moab.

Christmas Box Resource Rooms - $600,000 worth of new in-kind donations for children are distributed to community resource rooms along the Wasatch Front for at-risk children, providing items such as clothing, school supplies, books, toys and hygiene items.

Project Elf - Gifts and resources are collected statewide to help make the holiday season brighter for more than 3,500 children in Utah.

JourneyUP Mentor Project (JUMP) - This program provides resources and support to more than 800 at-risk young adults transitioning to adult life including:
  • connecting youth with adult mentors and community resources
  • move-in kits filled with new household items
  •  partnering to support annual Youth Leadership Summit for 290 older teens in foster care

International Projects - CBI provided resources to 770 at-risk children in countries such as Haiti, Taiwan, India, Kenya, Nairobi and the Congo.

Monetary Contributions can be submitted with your online class registration and on site at the show in May. To contribute by mail, please send your donation to:
